Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super (Japanese: ドラゴンボール超スーパー Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Sūpā) is an ongoing Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation that began airing on July 5, 2015. Its overall plot outline is written by Dragon Ball franchise creator Akira Toriyama, while the individual episodes are written by different screenwriters. It is also a manga series illustrated by Toyotarou, serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine V Jump. The anime is a sequel to Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga and the Dragon Ball Z television series featuring the first new storyline in 18 years. It is broadcast on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. on Fuji TV.

1. Dragon Ball Super is set before the end of Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z ends with a flash-forward to a new tournament, and Goku abandoning his family to go train a reincarnated Uub. But as we learned in a statement from Toriyama, the series will begin about six months after the original defeat of Kid Buu.

2. Dragon Ball GT never happened

Yes Akira Toriyama did do some editing of it, but he did not write the series. He may be seen as the Author in credits, that is because he created the Dragon Ball manga. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are the main two series. Dragon Ball GT can either be considered canon or non canon, it is up to you.

So there will be no Super Saiyan 4 form 😞

3. There are more universes (multiverse) and more Dragon Balls

There are six in total and two universes combined that add up to 13 are twin universes. All events that occur in Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT, as well as the God of Destruction Beerus Saga and Golden Frieza Saga in Dragon Ball Super take place in Universe 7.

1. Each universe has a heirarchy of Gods, at the top of which is a God of Destruction, as well as the Supreme Kai (who represents creation) followed by the various Kais who facilitate each quadrant of the universe (North, East, South and West Kais)

2. Each God of Destruction has an angelic attendant, who also serve as their martial arts tutors

3. There are a total of 12 Universes, 6 pairs of which if you add their numbers, they add up to 13 (Note: 1+12=13, 2+11=13,...6,7=13)

4. There are new Super Saiyan forms and a lot of new characters

There are bunch of new characters and also protagonists new forms but will not talk about it any more than this to not spoil special moments for those who haven't started watching the anime yet.
